Acropolis & Ancient Athens Half-Day Tour
Overview
A must-do experience with expert guides and seamless organisation.
Full description
Start your day by exploring the world-famous Acropolis before the heat and crowds arrive. Your tour begins at the Key Tours office, where you will meet your knowledgeable guide before heading toward the southern slope of the Acropolis hill. Along the way, you will discover important ancient landmarks such as the Sanctuary of Dionysus and the historic Theater of Dionysus, one of the earliest theatres in the world.
As you make your way up the hill, prepare your camera to capture breathtaking views of Athens and the iconic monuments of the Acropolis. Admire architectural masterpieces including the Parthenon, the elegant Erechtheion, the grand Propylaea, the charming Temple of Athena Nike, and the impressive Pedestal of Agrippa. Your guide will share fascinating stories and historical insights that bring these ancient structures to life.
After exploring the Acropolis, descend toward the heart of the city while enjoying views of other historic landmarks such as the Ancient Agora of Athens and the National Observatory of Athens. The tour continues through Plaka, the oldest and most picturesque district of Athens.
Within Plaka, you will visit the charming hillside neighborhood of Anafiotika, a hidden gem known for its peaceful atmosphere and Cycladic-style houses. Wander through narrow, winding alleys lined with whitewashed homes, colorful shutters, and traditional wooden doors. Here, you will discover quiet corners and stunning viewpoints that many visitors — and even locals — rarely find.
Your journey continues past several notable monuments including the historic Bathhouse of the Winds, the only surviving public bathhouse from the early Ottoman period in Athens. Nearby, you will also see the Roman Agora of Athens, the Fethiye Mosque, and Hadrian's Library, each offering a glimpse into the city’s rich multicultural history.
The tour concludes at lively Monastiraki Square, one of the oldest and most vibrant squares in Athens. After the tour, you may wish to explore the famous flea market nearby, browse local shops, or relax at one of the many traditional cafés and restaurants for lunch or a coffee.
